The pepper tree
The Pepper Tree is a unique, upper-class version of Wagamamas. This attractive Thai restaurant models its design on a school canteen with elbows touching the friendly stranger sitting inches next to you. The simplistic interior and friendly staff make this restaurant a vibrant yet relaxing place to grab a quick meal; perfect for the young clientele that grace Clapham High Street.
The food definitely did not disappoint, catering for chilli lovers (such as myself as of recent) or those less keen on exotic tastes. With a bright and beautiful menu to tickle your taste buds, there is something for everyone here.
I decided to go for the Thai Red Curry, trying to get a slightly healthier version instead of the “sweet and crispy” options also available. This was beautifully spicy, enough to require a tissue or two, but mild enough for me to taste the dish in it’s entirety. I was pleased to see “brown rice” as an option on the menu, unlike the local curry restaurant where wholemeal varieties are scarce. It complemented the creamy sauce refreshingly and felt “almost” guilt free, following my afternoon gym session.
My mother got the Seafood Wok Noodles, which I obviously had to try out. This was another beautiful dish packed with vegetables, helping you on your way to your 5-a-day. Unfortunately the sauce covered the dish a little too much for my liking and therefore I’d advise asking for less or it on the side if you want to watch those invisible calories (as we all are according to the laws of New Years!).
This was a lovely experience and extremely affordable. With below £20 for two people, this is great value for money and a perfect treat for those students out there!
PS - I have read great reviews regarding their weekend breakfasts. Offering a twist to my usual poached eggs on toast means I will most definitely be paying The Pepper Tree another visit soon.
